Backups Are Here: 1st August 2009

For several years we’ve reminded customers regularly that they must make their own backups. In the past we’ve only taken occasional backups when we’ve been doing the occasional upgrade that caused us some concern.

However in light of several recent events we’ve recognised that some customers simply do not have the time to perform their own backups of all their files, databases and emails  on a regular (or even a semi-regular basis in some cases!).

We have for quite a while been exploring the options available to us for secure off-site backups in a physically separate datacenter from our servers. We are now in a position to launch this service to all users! Unfortunately our existing pricing structure is unable to include these backups.

We’ve also recognised that some users have more time-sensitive data than others so we will be offering two different types of backup package:

  • Weekly – Suited to clients who just want a secure off-site copy of their data.
    On a weekly basis we will take a full copy of all of your account from files to cPanel configuration options and store it offsite. Simply contact us for a restore* of this file at any time.
  • Daily – Suited to clients with important email/database changes daily.
    On a daily basis we will take a full copy of all of your account from files to cPanel configuration options and store it offsite. Simply contact us for a restore* of this file at any time.

* A “restore” will be defined as a complete replacement of what is currently on the site with the contents of your backup file. Any custom restore which requires a subset of this data restored will be charged at our Premium Support rates.
Note:
The launch of this service will also mean that we will not backup any accounts not registered for our backup service, backups for other customers will remain the customers own responsibility (including during upgrades).

Easy Hosting Customers

For our Easy hosting customers the backups will be priced as below, this pricing already includes price increase for new orders from September 1st 2009.

Resellers note: If you have multiple units currently wrapped up in one reseller bundle you’ll need to purchase this for all your units. If you’d like to move some accounts into a separate unit which will be backed up then please contact support.

Premium Support

It has become apparent over the last six months that our customers install a wide range of different hosting packages on their webspace, often packages that we have little or no experience of.

As the vast amount of packages and options that become available to our customers increase we feel that we will struggle to support all of these packages. As such we’re introducing premium support.

Our current support which is included with our packages will still exist for server, configuration, email issues as it always has, but investigation of software packages that customers have installed (with or without Fantastico) and fixes to them will be charged at our premium support rate from August 1st 2009.

Premium Support will be charged at £25 per hour (in half hour increments), when you request premium support we will ask you to commit to the first half hour of investigation time. During this investigation time we will attempt to diagnose and fix the problem. If we cannot fix the problem during this time we will return to you with a quote of how much more premium support time may be needed.

Pricing from September 1st 2009

BetterWebSpace is growing, and needs to price itself accordingly to sustain that growth, as such from the 1st September 2009 our prices will increase.

Our Easy packages are without a doubt our most popular product and despite various shifts in the economy and exchange rates during the past 4-5 years we’ve managed to keep them at the same prices.

Customers on packages at the current prices (and any packages purchased before September 1st) will be able to stay on those packages for the lifetime of that account. However if any changes are made to the account (upgrades, addition of backups etc) after September 1st these will be on our new pricing structure below.

For Annual hosting customers these prices are yearly and for resellers these are monthly prices.

We’re issuing this notification now to allow our valued customers to make any upgrades, changes or purchase additional packages they need before the 1st September 2009.
